Psalm 136 repeats the phrase "his mercy endureth for ever" twenty-six times — once after every statement about what God has done. The repetition is intentional: it is a refrain meant to be internalized, not skimmed. The Hebrew word hesed, translated "mercy" here, means loyal, covenantal love that does not waver even when the recipient is unworthy. That love is not expiring today.
